The journey towards to the priesthood is marked by a series of ceremonies which brings a levite ever closer to the altar of the Divine Sacrifice.
First he turns his back upon the world by taking the cassock, then he is adopted as a child of the Church during the ceremony of the Tonsure. The minor orders are conferred in twos: Porter and Lector, Acolyte and Exorcist. The moment of irrevocable commitment to the service of the altar is the ordination to the Subdiaconate.
The Deaconate is the first participation in the sacrament of Holy Orders and is followed by the final step, the ordination to the Priesthood which is the greatest honour that can be bestowed upon a man.
