Towards 3:00 p.m., at the Os Valinhos – in the shade of the olive trees, where the temperature was 102° - the pilgrims recited the final rosary that brought the pilgrimage for the centenary of the apparitions of Fatima to a close.

Gathered around the statue of Our Lady who came to visit this place one hundred years ago almost to the day, on August 19, 1917, the faithful from all four corners of the world meditated on the glorious mysteries, led in Portuguese and French by Fr. Bertrand Labouche, who was prior in Portugal for ten years, and wrote the book “Fatima, The Message for Our Times”.

During his meditation for the second glorious mystery, he quoted these ardent words of St. Pius X on the Most Holy Rosary: “The Rosary is the most beautiful and the most rich in graces of all prayers; it is the prayer that touches most the Heart of the Mother of God…and if you wish peace to reign in your homes, recite the family Rosary. It is the most beautiful prayer after the Holy Mass. Give me an army saying the Rosary and I will conquer the world!”

And the preacher called out to the faithful: “We are that army that must Christianize the world!”
