In Japan: the Oldest Nun in the World Turns 110

Spanish missionary Sister Victoria de la Cruz García of the Congregation of Adoration Sisters, celebrated her 110th birthday on June 24, 2017, in Japan. After the death on March 25 of the Italian nun,Sister Candida Bellotti, who was four months older than her, she is now the oldest nun in the world.
Born in Máalaga, Spain, in 1907, she arrived in Japan in 1936. She thus witnessed the Second World War and the nuclear bombings in Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
In her years as a missionary, she worked in different schools in Japan, then served as superior of several convents. She also founded a school in California (United States) where she lived for six years.
Today, Sister Victoria de la Cruz lives in a religious residence in the Kitami district in Tokyo. “Nothing bothers me or causes me to suffer, I am fine and I thank God and everyone,” she declared to the media during her birthday celebration.
