Appeal for the Victims of Odette Typhoon

Source: District of Asia

As may have already known, a Super Typhoon has devastated the southern part of the Philippines last week. Since then we've been anxiously waiting for updates as the SSPX has several missions and chapels in the affected areas. Fr. Emerson Salvador went immediately to Leyte a day after the super typhoon hit to assess the damage it caused our chapels and our faithfuls. Yesterday, we have just received a note from him as most of the electric and telephone lines were shut down.

You will see in the photos the extent of the destruction. Only few of our faithful’s houses were spared — those made of concrete; but for most, they suffered. Several have lost completely their homes. For now they just made little tents from tarpaulins to protect them from heat and rain. Many have lost their roof tops ripped by the wind. Our chapel in Bato lost part of the roof, while the chapel in Maasin the front canopy collapsed and part of side walls were broken. Our chapel in Marcohon was also damaged. On the good side, we are thankful that no one has perished.

In the spirit of the coming season, we appeal for whatever help you may spare for our people affected by this catastrophe. Despite all these they keep their grateful spirit knowing that our good Lord has protected them from a greater calamity. And that, they could unite with the Holy Family in simplicity and privation of the crib in Bethlehem.

Thank you very much in advance for your prayers and for your material or financial help. May the Good Lord repay your kindness and generosity.
